My Counselor's office will be warm and inviting.  When you first walk in, the desk will be on the wall closest to the door, Across from the desk is two seats.  You walk further into the room, and in the far corner is a couch with two comfy chairs and a coffee table in between.  Behind the door is bookshelves full of books and flower pots.  There is a flower pot on my desk and a small green plant in the corner.  There will be posters all over the room with positive affirmations.  All students will be represented with different sayings that would represent different interests and beliefs.  The lighting would be dim with lamps instead of the bright overhead lighting that schools have.  I would look for an area rug for the area that has the couch and chairs.  This area would be for group counseling etc.  I would have a flat screen tv, and poster board/white board do work on posters etc, that the students would want to make.  The television will be used for videos and information gained from the computer.

Tawnia's Professional School Counseling Room

Hello,

This is Tawnia Ramstad and this is my first blog.  I will be telling you about my "dream" school counseling office.  This office will be ideal for students to have privacy and feel comfortable discussing any issues with me they might have.  This is very important for the Professional School Counseling program as it is how relationships begin at the school.  If the student feels they will be able to privately and confidentially visit with the counselor, they will be more likely to utilize it if they need.
